True Colors Fund: July's Non-Profit Spotlight

The True Colors Fund was co-founded by Cyndi Lauper to raise awareness about and bring an end to LGBT youth homelessness, and to inspire everyone, especially straight people, to become active participants in the advancement of equality for all. This mission is accomplished through the organization’s two programs, the Forty to None Project and the Give A Damn Campaign . In America, it is estimated that up to 1.6 million youth are homeless each year and that up to 40% of them identify as LGBT. Yet, only up to 7% of the general youth population does the same. The most cited reason why these young people experience homelessness at a highly disproportionate rate is family rejection because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Through its Forty toNone Project , the True Colors Fund is working both proactively and reactively to address the issue and ultimately reduce the disproportionate percentage from 40% to none.
