Gregory Nalbone to Perform at Shining Stars Awards

Rising Star Music Sensation  Brings Brilliant Voice and  Graceful Form to Awards Evening by Henry Jones Gregory Nalbone will perform at the 2012 Shining Stars Awards , to be held at The Box on the Lower East Side. “I love NGLCCNY,” said Mr. Nalbone, “and I’m glad to be performing for the LGBT business community at the Shining Stars Awards.” Gregory Nalbone by Clecio Lira Nalbone is a surprise gem in the music world. Raised in a small town in New Jersey, he arrived in New York in 1991, and worked as a model for the likes of Calvin Klein and Italian Vogue. Growing up gay in the nineteen-eighties, young Gregory had a different sensibility from the boys around him, and was continually harassed. “My mother taught me to play the piano as a boy,” said Mr. Nalbone. “Music was the gift she gave me – she died when I was eleven.” More than anything, young Gregory Nalbone wanted to sing. Shining Stars 2012: An Evening of Awards, Community and Entertainment

Shining Stars, New York’s premier gathering for LGBT and allied corporate executives, business owners and community leaders returns October 25, 2012 with the all-new Shining Stars Awards. The Awards will be given at The Box, the world-famous entertainment venue on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Chamber members Jack Osborn and Dan McGuire will be the first Shining Stars Awards recipients. Mr. Osborn, founder and chairman of the eponymous certified Silver Business Member law firm will receive the Business Member Award. Ninety Chamber members and their guests stand listening in a large, private room in Chelsea. New Yorkers Roll the Dice and Win

Roll the Dice returned with this year's National Convention held in Chicago on August 10. Two of the finalists, and ultimately the winner, were NGLCCNY members. Joe Cote and Dakin Parker of NGLCCNY Bronze Business Member CapsulePen ( ) won the $10,000 prize.  Roll the Dice is a program of the NGLCC National Business & Leadership Conference. Entrepreneurially minded certified LGBT businesses “pitch” a new product for funding. This year’s prize was originally set at $1,500, but on the spot, surprise contributions from Ernst & Young and Allstate moved the award to $10,000. “I was walking down 9th Avenue when I got the call that we were finalists,” said Mr. Cote. “I called Dakin and we screamed into each other’s ear to celebrate.” “When we won, I hugged Dakin and managed not to cry,” said Mr. Cote. “It was an acknowledgement of hard work, a sign we are on the right path.
