What’s your story? Everyone’s got a story and If you are ready to share it; I’m From Driftwood is there to document it.
I’m From Driftwood (IFD) is the brainchild of Founder and Executive Director, Nathan Manske, who recently celebrated the 8th Anniversary of his beloved organization. Manske was inspired after seeing the film “MILK” to do something meaningful in this world. He named his organization “I’m From Driftwood” in a nod to the now famous photograph, in which Milk holds a sign with the message “I’m from Woodmere, NY." The iconic image inspired Manske to create an organization that would in turn give something back to everyone in the LGBTQ community – a sense of belonging and being part of something greater than themselves. IFD began archiving first person, queer experience narratives to lessen isolation and build an online community of support and comfort to those in the most remote corners of the world. Starting out on a 50 State Tour the IFD archive has amassed a collection of narratives that now span the globe.
Always armed with a message that you are part of an incredibly diverse and resilient community. The curated videos captured the attention of ComcastNBCUniversal – the largest cable provider. IFD has partnered with ComcastNBCUniversal and SAGE, (Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders) the country's largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of older LGBT adults, to find storytellers. Together they are bringing a well-deserved spotlight to those whose shoulders we stand on in an IFD Program called “What Was It Like”?
This new programming offers IFD the opportunity to showcase the extraordinary individuals who have paved the way. The support of Comcast NBNCUniversal is ensuring the stories are seen across the country, as they premier exclusively on Comcast’s Xfinity network and On Demand.
To help support the work of I’m From Driftwood, consider Donating, sharing your Story, bring IFD to your company’s ERG or attending the Annual BBQ.
