January's Non-Profit Spotlight: The National LGBTQ Task Force

The NationalLGBTQ Task Force is the leading progressive social justice organization that works to build power, take action and create change to achieve freedom and justice for LGBTQ people and their families. The Task Force is building a future where everyone is free to be themselves in every aspect of their lives.

Today, despite all the progress we’ve made to end discrimination, millions of LGBTQ people face barriers in every aspect of their lives: in housing, employment, healthcare, retirement, and basic human rights.

In 2015, we’re working to change that, by:
  • Passing a federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act: it’s time for ALL Americans to be able to be open about who they are and who they love, no matter where they work or where they live.
  • Ending violence against trans folks: This year alone, 12 trans folks were victims of deadly hate crimes. Trans people continue to be violently attacked and murdered, simply because of who they are. One homicide is too many, and together we can and must do more to stop this violence.
  • Training and mobilizing thousands of leaders who will be a driving force for LGBTQ equality in communities across the country.
Rea Carey, Executive Director
The Task Force also hosts the country’s premier conference on LGBTQ equality—Creating Change. Taking place this year from February 4-8 in Denver, Colorado, we’ll welcome nearly 4,000 folks from across the country to help shape the future of the LGBTQ movement for equality.
