Corporate Partner Spotlight: Diageo
While many of us are well acquainted with Diageo for its world-famous drink brands (if you were at Shining Stars in October, you likely drank many of their brands), NGLCCNY is particularly proud to have Diageo as one of its newest Corporate Partners. Diageo, which first became involved with the Chamber in July 2012, has already demonstrated its commitment to building strong relationships with NGLCCNY members, including by participating as a Stakeholder of the 2012 Shining Stars.
Joe O’Brien, responsible for Diageo’s experiential field marketing and consumer promotions as part of procurement in North America, became familiar with the Chamber through counterparts at Pfizer while discussing strategies for obtaining diverse suppliers.
“Diageo is thrilled to become involved with the Chamber as it is working to further develop its supplier diversity program. We were also particularly excited on the national level to become a part of NGLCC’s 10th anniversary gala,” says O’Brien. “And on the local level we intend on being engaged to the fullest extent possible and are looking at other ways to participate, such as hosting an upcoming M3.”
Diageo’s great efforts over the years to be inclusive of diverse employees and suppliers lead to the formal creation of its supplier diversity program, thanks to the great support of Vincent Murphy, Diageo’s Vice President of Procurement. Together with Adrienne Wallace, O’Brien is working on building Diageo’s supplier diversity program because they appreciate the value of engaging with diverse suppliers. “Our goal is to become one of the leaders in supplier diversity,” says O’Brien. As part of that mission, Diageo has completed a thorough survey of the supplier diversity landscape, including obtaining guidance from NGLCC, in an effort to create a model program.
In addition to its tremendous commitment to the Chamber, Diageo has been extremely involved with and supportive of the LGBT community, as demonstrated by its endorsement of the repeal of DOMA and maintaining 100% perfect marks on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index for the past five years. Diageo also proudly maintains partnerships and sponsorships with, among many others, GLAAD (and the GLAAD Media Awards); the Stonewall Foundation Dinner; the LGBT Center Garden Party; Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS; Out & Equal Workplace Summit; and the New York City Pride Parade. Diageo further supports its own LGBT employees by providing legal and financial webinars designed specifically for LGBT individuals.
Diageo is working on creating its supplier diversity website. In the meantime, NGLCCNY members interested in contacting Diageo concerning supplier diversity and related opportunities may contact Joe O’Brien at (203) 229-4719 or Joe.O'Brien@diageo.com.
