NGLCCNY CONVENES SECOND ANNUAL NON-PROFIT BOARD RETREAT

The gathering will be held at The Standard New York in the Meatpacking District overlooking the High Line Park. With the Hudson River as backdrop, a select group of influential current board members from LGBT non-profit organizations will attempt to answer the question: “Is There Such a Thing as a High-Performing Board?”
“Among the many challenges that face non-profits today, none is as crucial as the much talked-about concept of board performance,” said Eric Longo, Chair of NGLCCNY’s Social Impact Industry Council, “We intuitively know that a high functioning board is a key driver of organizational success, yet I think most boards struggle with performance.”
Facilitated by Ben Brooks, Senior Vice President/Global Director, Enterprise Communications & Colleague Engagement at Marsh, and board member at OutServe- Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, the board leaders will address, through structured debates and working group sessions, provocative questions such as:
·      Why have a laser-focused board – what becomes possible?
·      What are the best practices to promote effective board engagement?
·      How can a board drive its organization to have greater impact?
In addition to the day’s programming, The Standard New York will host an intimate dinner for the participants on Friday, January 11, 2013.
“The vision for NGLCCNY has always been to develop and bring out the best in people,” said NGLCCNY Chairman Emeritus Thomas Koveleskie. “The board retreat exemplifies this by creating a training opportunity for a select group of community leaders who make a major difference in social services, advocacy and arts organizations.”
