Superstar Connection Center a Gleaming Success!

by Henry Jones

The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce New York (NGLCCNY) held the Superstar Connection Center – New York’s first-ever marketplace for certified LGBT-owned Business Enterprises – on October 25, 2012. Avon, an NGLCCNY Copper Corporate Partner and Supernova Presenting Stakeholder, hosted the event at its elegant 3rd Avenue offices.

“The Superstar Connection Center was a first for New York,” said David Ricciardi, NGLCCNY Supplier Diversity Committee Chair and President of Proximo Consulting Services. “Our suppliers represent a broad variety of commodity groups, and our Corporate Partners were excited to engage with them.” Ricciardi headed the team that produced the successful event.

Representatives from major corporations such as Aon, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Home Box Office, New York Life, Novartis and WilmerHale attended the Superstar Connection Center to meet potential suppliers. Twenty businesses, each a member of NGLCCNY and certified as an LGBT Business Enterprise, participated in the marketplace. The businesses represented key commodity groups including public relations, human resources, training and development, catering, technology and legal services to name a few.

“The Superstar Connection Center stood apart from other events we’ve attended,” said Joanne Balady, Founder and President of NGLCCNY Bronze Business Member Balady Promotions. “We found good potential business with both corporations and other NGLCCNY members that were curious about our services. It’s wonderful to be in this community!”

NGLCCNY is making an impact, increasing the prosperity of certified LGBT Business Enterprises by creating innovative economic development opportunities,” said Chamber President Richard Oceguera. “The Superstar Connection Center is an example of how we are fulfilling on the Chamber’s mission.”

Following a break, Superstar Connection Center participants reconvened for the Connection Reception at The Box on the Lower East Side, hosted by Insignia National Title Agency. The Chelsea-based title agency is an NGLCCNY Silver Business Member and Rising Star Stakeholder in the Shining Stars day of events.

NGLCCNY is the New York affiliate of the Washington, D.C. based National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), provider of the certification for LGBT-owned Business Enterprises recognized across corporate America.
