Stars Shine Brightly at Awards!

by Henry Jones

The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce New York (NGLCCNY) held its third annual Shining Stars Awards on October 25, 2012 at The Box, a world-famous entertainment venue on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The Shining Stars Awards was the end cap of a day of events which included an afternoon of business development and community building.

The 2012 Shining Stars Awards were presented to Jack Osborn, founder and chairman of the eponymous law firm Osborn, and Dan McGuire, Senior Project Manager at Marsh & McLennan Companies. The awards recognized Osborn and McGuire for their outstanding leadership and contribution to the Chamber community.

“This was our third Shining Stars – but the first year for the Awards,” remarked NGLCCNY President Richard Oceguera. “Without the dedication and contributions of leaders like John, Dan and so many others the Chamber simply would not work. I look forward to presenting more awards in 2013!”

The evening was a visual treat and featured Jonathan D. Lovitz, the accomplished stage and screen actor, model, and advocate as the Awards emcee. Rising star music sensation Gregory Nalbone wowed the 300 attendees with his riveting vocals and live orchestra. And for those who were looking to the stars several performances by The Box’s aerialist provided moments of beauty and grace. NYC’s own DJ Stacy spun music throughout the evening.

The success of Shining Stars is owed in great part to the many companies that stepped up to the plate to become Stakeholders and to those who volunteered to produce the event.
“The Shining Stars Awards was amazing and well organized,” said John Reynolds, CFO of NGLCCNY Gold Business Member Flatiron Hotel and Lucky Star Stakeholder. “It left me excited about participating in the Chamber community.”
Proceeds from three raffle packages were donated to the American Cancer Society, an NGLCCNY Non-Profit Community Partner.
