Avon Products, Inc. has been a strong supporter of NGLCCNY since its inception. Consistent with its Global Inclusion initiative, Avon -- “the company for women” -- provides unyielding support to the LGBT community, as demonstrated by its score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. The Avon Pride Network, which is the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender network at Avon, is one of the many ways in which Avon advances its commitment to its Global Inclusion in an effort to maintain Avon as an inclusive, socially responsible place to work.
Through the Avon Pride Network, a New York campus-based Associate Resource Group (ARG) was formed which has actively provided volunteer services and, through the Avon Foundation, much needed funds to God’s Love We Deliver. In an effort to further increase participation of LGBT associates and allies, Avon is working to expand its ARG globally.
“Among recent activities, Avon’s Pride Network hosted an Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Cheering Station in support of the walkers who volunteered a weekend of time to walk in addition to raising money for breast cancer awareness and research,” said Doug Jensen, Avon’s Vice President, Global Analytics and Co-Chair of the Pride Network. “Appearing front and center at the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, and receiving such warm, supportive responses from the walkers, volunteers, and Avon associates, further underscored Avon’s cross-functional commitment to inclusion and social awareness.”
Avon also participated in the 2012 AIDS Walk and hosted a booth at New York City’s 2012 Pridefest where it distributed 15,000 samples of ANEW Genics anti-aging moisturizing cream.
As an NGLCCNY Copper Corporate Partner, the Chamber is particularly fortunate to count Avon among its supporters. Avon is an active participant in the Employee Resource Group (ERG) Roundtable initiative; a forum for key leaders from NGLCCNY Corporate Partners to share ideas and knowledge, including information about supplier diversity. “The ERG Roundtable is a great resource for all NGLCCNY Corporate Partners because it provides an open platform to share best practices for further inclusion and diversity while inspiring motivation and enthusiasm,” said Mr. Jensen. Avon is also an active participant in the Chamber’s Award Winning Certified Superstar program (where certified LGBT Business Enterprises have the opportunity to practice pitching to supplier diversity and procurement representatives and receive valuable feedback). Additionally, in 2011 Avon sponsored NGLCCNY’s Shining Stars event leveraging this opportunity to launch its ANEW Genics skincare line.
NGLCCNY members are invited to join Avon’s Pride Network on October 20, 2012 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. to cheer on the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer walkers. The Pride Network Cheering Station will be located in front of 777 Third Avenue (at 48th Street) in Manhattan.
